Acupuncture

Acupuncture

is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 4,000 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most widely researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine in the U.S.

According to Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body.  Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow.  The many benefits of this type of therapy include:

  • Pain reduction

  • Relaxation of body and mind

  • Stress and tension relief

  • Increased blood circulation

  • Increased energy levels

  • Aids with digestion and toxin removal

  • Improved internal organ function

  • Relief from bad habits and addictions

  • Greater sense of overall well-being

Acupressure

Acupressure
is a form of bodywork similar to acupuncture, with the aim of stimulating specific points along the energy lines of the body to establish overall health and vitality by balancing your Qi (energy) flow.  Unlike acupuncture however, with this modality I use my hands to apply pressure to the specific points rather than needling, producing similar therapeutic results.

Auricular Therapy

Auriculary Therapy, also known as ear acupuncture, is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Auricular therapy is widely used for many conditions, including addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and other conditions. This medical system emphasizes a holistic approach to medicine, an approach that treats the whole person. The acupuncture points found on the ear help to regulate the body's internal organs, structures, and functions.

Cupping

Cupping is a method of relieving local congestion by applying a partial vacuum that is created in a cup(s), either by heat or by suction. Cupping has been used for thousands of years. Although it is often associated with Traditional Chinese Medicine, the entire world once knew this of therapy and used it. The Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Chinese used cupping therapy. The oldest recorded medical textbook, Ebers Papyrus, written in approximately 1550 BCE in Egypt, mentions cupping (Curtis, 2005). In the UK, the practice of cupping therapy also dates back a long time in one of their leading medical journals, The Lancet. It was named after this practice as it refers to the surgical instrument that can scrape the skin to perform a style of cupping.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine
is the therapeutic use of plants, and is one of the oldest forms of health care in the world.  Depending on your specific needs, we prescribe specific herbs that produce and contain a variety of chemical substances that act upon the body.  Different herbs have been effectively used for a wide range of medicinal purposes including pain relief, hormone balancing, sleep enhancement, improved digestion, skin soothing, and stress relief.

Laser Acupuncture

Laserpuncture / Laser Acupuncture therapy is the accepted name employed by those who practice the principle of Acupuncture by using the stimulation of a laser beam instead of a penetrating needle. The laser beam can produce low-heat light, pressure and electromagnetic wave, which can stimulate the acupoint of human body, and input an energy into it, so as to excite the channels and properties, regulate the function of organism, promote the metabolism, possessing the function of both acupuncture and moxibustion.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion
is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing.  Moxibustion has been used for healing purposes throughout Asia for thousands of years.  The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi (energy), and enhance overall vitality and health.

Among other benefits, a landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that up to 75% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point on the bladder meridian.

Point Injection

Point injection therapy utilizes the injection of liquid medicine into acupuncture points to prevent or treat diseases. It is one of the more integrated treatment strategies available to us in the 21st century. It combines the actions of acupuncture with the pharmacological effect of Chinese medicinal herbs or biomedical pharmaceuticals. It uses hypodermic needle techniques at acupuncture point locations so as to produce successful clinical outcomes.

Tui Na

Tui na (pronounced tuî ná), is a form of
Chinese manipulative therapy often used in conjunction with acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, Chinese herbalism, tai chi and qigongTui na is a hands-on-body treatment using acupressure that is a modality of Chinese medicine whose purpose is to bring the body into balance. It involves brushing, kneading, rolling/pressing and rubbing the areas between each of the joints (known as the eight gates) to open the body's defensive (wei) chi and get the energy moving in both the meridians and the muscles. It also uses range of motion, traction, massage, with the stimulation of acupressure points to treat both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions. It is related to Chinese massage.

Medical Technology

Medical technology refers to the diagnostic or therapeutic application of science and technology to improve the management of health conditions. Technologies may encompass any means of identifying the nature of conditions to allow intervention with devices, pharmacological, biological or other methods to increase life span and/or improve the quality of life.  Medical technology has developed in many fields which make the lives of human beings easier and more comfortable in many ways.
